Immigration: A History of Italians in New Mexico

A lot can be said about the Italians who came in through Ellis Island and the welcome they received from Nativism when they got here.

A lot more has been written about their upward climb in American Society, but the WOPAJOS do not identify with that branch of Italian Americanism and have spent over a century compiling the real history of the Italian American as co-rulers of the Empire that conquered a virgin continent and introduced the first European Culture to people who were at a different stage of development and governed with tribal governments, tribal religions, tribal values and traditions. The culture that was introduced was the culture of Southern Europe, the culture of the Holy Roman Empire. The religion that was introduced was christianity, and the government that was introduced was the government of the Middle Ages'The totalitarian Medieval Culture of the times. A government identical throughout the Civilized world of Europe and if you look closely, also in China. with some regional differences regional individualities but, by and large one government. One Religion, one way of life, the caste system that placed the wealth of Nobility at the top of it's social pyramid, and the Clergy Like Siamese Twins, two heads of one Dragon. Two thrones that ruled the body, the mind and the spirit of man.... England broke away with Protestantism and the marital problems of Henry VIII. Russia broke away with it's Byzantine Eastern Orthodoxy, but, aside from not recognizing the Pope as head of the faith, very little else changed during the age of discovery... For the time being, we have to have to forgo further research of the Italian Experience in America, because Albuquerque is about to celebrate it's Tricentennial anniversary. The Italian population of that city is, has played a large part in the growth and development of Albuquerque and it behooves the WOPAJOS to familiarize the untutored with those contributions. As we see it, today is October 28, 2003. the celebration will take place from April 2006 to April 2007. If we buckle down and write every day, from now until opening day we'll be lucky to cover the period from 1846 to the Second World war in that time. So Time is of the essence. So without further ceremony we will dedicate this series to Ioli Giomi, as well as the Italian Cultural Clubs in which IL CAPO CINO has officiated or presided through the years to those personal friends that I intend to thank personally when I get to them their own contributions, and The WOPAJO tribe... for affording me the time and equipment for use away from the Presidency. For the first time since the days of Salomon Luna material that is usually written and published for the sole use of the tribe and the tribe alone must be published for use by the general Italian community. Because of that, we have to be very careful as to what information we use and which information we do not use.
